VIC: Seven year old boy killed by tractor

A seven-year-old boy has been killed when he fell from a tractor being driven by his father
in Victoria's south-west.

Police say the boy fell off the back of the tractor and was rushed to hospital but died a
short time later.

The accident happened while the boy was feeding hay with his father at a property at
Corunnun, near Colac, around 12.30pm.

Victorian WorkCover Authority chief executive ANDREW LINDBERG says the accident is a
tragedy and has warned of the dangers of school holiday accidents.

He says school holidays are the most dangerous time for child deaths and injuries as a
result of farming accidents.

WorkCover investigators say it appears the boy had been standing on a side of the tractor
when he slipped and fell under a back wheel.





Victorian Workcover statistics show 15 children aged under 18 have died in vehicle-related
farm accidents since 1985 -- and 12 of those involved tractors.
