Maureen Mary Hawkes (Sadie) Dell was born in Kettering,Northamptonshire, England to Dorothy and John Hawkes on October 23,1928. Her older brother, Peter, preceded her in death. She was anaccomplished ballroom dancer in her teens and survived World War IIduring her high school years. She received her certification as aMaternity Nurse and worked with children, both at that time, as wellas later in Colorado Springs as a Teacher's Aide. On July 4, 1953,she married James V. Dell, her "Dingle". The Air Force took themback and forth between England and the United States until theysettled in Colorado Springs in 1968, with their four children -Suanne Dell, Joanne Dell Fisher (Larry), Michael Dell and John Dell(Pam). Maureen became an American citizen in her sixties, butremained true to her British heritage, keeping in touch with manyexpatriates, exchanging recipes and jokes via the Internet. Maureenloved cooking, collecting cookbooks and was renowned for her baking.Her huge chocolate cakes were often given as a "Thank You". Shegifted numerous baby sweaters and scarves that she knitted. Sheenjoyed clothes, social events, eating out, and gambling at thepenny slots in Cripple Creek. She was eager to help out andvolunteered at West Side Cares. As a convert, she had a strongCatholic faith and ran the powerful Sacred Heart prayer chain untilher retirement last year. With her love, intelligence, spunk, humorand indomitable spirit, she made her mark in the world. Her greatestlove was her family and friends. She was always Mum to her children,Gran to Kyle and Andrea her grandchildren, Aunty Maureen to hernumerous nieces and nephews, and the love of Jim's life with whomshe spent 57 years. She died knowing that she was loved, and withher family and all her friends knowing she loved them. We arecomforted that she had a good life and is now with God and herfamily in heaven. Services will be held Sat., April 30th, 10 AM atSacred Heart Catholic Church, 2021 W. Pikes Peak Ave., Colo. Spgs.,80904. Reception follows.
